One thing that I have adapted since changing to a way of cooking that is more “down to earth” is making my own sauces. Being from the midwest, I am a BIG sauce girl. I started reading the ingredients on my favorite condiments and found they are filled with seed oils, sugar, and ingredients I cannot even pronounce. There is no reason I needed to continue to use store bought sauces when I could make them myself.
I absolutely love stir fry, but I cannot find a store bought sauce or a recipe online that had all my criteria: tastes good and uses only pure, simple ingredients. So, I made this sauce that tastes great, is simple, and can be used in a variety of dishes: stirfry, noodles, egg roll bowls, and more!

How Does This Sauce Taste?
This sauce is a mixture of sweet and spicy, which I love in a stir fry sauce. It is on the more liquid side, but I find that is easily absorbed into rice and noodles. If you would need a thicker sauce, you could add cornstarch and cold water to the sauce on simmer to thicken.
How to Make Homemade Stir Fry Sauce
This sauce is so easy-just measure out the ingredients (find recipe below) and whisk together until combined. Feel free to add more or less red pepper flakes depending on your spice level. Then, add to your favorite dish. Allow the sauce to simmer with the rice, noodles, or whatever dish you are making, until it thickens slightly. This sauce will not become super thick. If this is your desired consistency, mix equal parts cornstarch and cold water (1 Tbsp water, 1 Tbsp cornstarch). Add this mixture to the simmering sauce and stir until it reaches the desire consistency.
