My husband and I are big coffee lovers. We love going to get lattes at the local coffee shops in our town, but we do not like seeing the amount of pumps of syrups going into our sweet lattes. So, we started making lattes at home just using espresso, honey, cinnamon, and milk. This latte was perfect! It was still sweet, not too strong, and perfect iced or hot.
Little did we know, until we tried to order this latte at the coffee shop, that the latte that we loved already had a name: miel. So here is an easy, light, and delicious coffee to start your morning.

Helpful Tips and Tricks
The espresso machine I own is the Delonghi Manual Espresso Machine in black. It is a great starter espresso machine and has worked well for me for almost two years. It is nothing super fancy and is a nice price, so I would recommend this espresso machine if you are looking into trying one out, but you don’t want to break the bank. I let my espresso machine run until the espresso starts to look very light (see image below) in the double shot portafilter and then do the single shot portafilter until it runs light again. I measured how much espresso this created and I got 1/3 cups + 2 Tbsp. If you have a higher end espresso machine, I think two shots of espresso will suffice.
As far as coffee beans or grounds go, I use whatever I have on hand to make this latte. I find that dark or espresso roast works best when making espresso because it has a stronger taste, so you don’t lose the coffee in a crafted latte. We have tried many different dark roasts and they have all worked pretty well. I can’t say there is one that did not taste good in this latte. The same goes for whole bean and ground coffee, both will work. Lately I have been preferring whole bean coffee because it has such a fresh taste, but that it personal preference.
For honey, I use whatever natural or organic honey i can get in a large bottle. We use a lot of honey in this household. Of course, fresh honey from my grandpa’s bees is always the best honey for a homemade miel, but any honey will work. This latte is very sweet, so if you are not a fan of sweet lattes, try a little less honey. 1 Tbsp would be sufficent.
For milk, I always use whole milk, but I am sure that any milk of choice will work well. I have used 2% as well in this latte and that tasted just the same. I have not tried non-dairy milk in this latte, but I am sure this can be supplemented for the whole milk. If you try it out, let me know how it turns out!
The cinnamon I use is just an organic cinnamon from Walmart or Target. I never measure the cinnamon. I always just do two shakes of cinnamon. I think cinnamon is something that is like salt and pepper. Measure to taste. I put two pinches in the recipe because that is the closest form of measurement I could think of.
