Fall is right around the corner and you know what that means; Pumpkin Spice Latte season! While I am one that loves to partake in all things pumpkin during Fall, I do not partake in Pumpkin Spice Lattes from the large chains anymore. After looking at the large amount of added sugar in these drinks, I thought, there had to be a “healthier” way to make them. Boy, do I have a treat for you. A pumpkin spice latte made with REAL pumpkin, honey, 100% maple syrup, pumpkin spice, and cinnamon. This recipe truly tastes like Fall in a cup. It is so simple and easy, you will be making this all Fall long.

- Espresso Machine
- Measuring Spoons
- Liquid Measuring Cups
- Small Saucepan
- Spoon
I have used my Espresso machine for almost three years now. It gets the job done and is a great starter machine if you want to start making coffee at home, but you don’t want to break the bank.
Ingredients You Will Need
- Espresso Roast
- 100% Canned Pumpkin
- Organic Honey
- 100 % Maple Syrup
- Pumpkin Spice
- Cinnamon
I have used a variety of different medium-dark roasts and espresso roasts in my homemade lattes. I have currently been using the one linked above. Any dark roast or espresso roast will work great. I usually use fresh honey from my grandpa’s hive in this recipe, but any organic honey will also work. I would stick with using 100% maple syrup because the other syrups you can find use ingredients such as “high fructose corn syrup.” I highly recommend reading the ingredients label on anything you buy.
How To Make The Homemade Pumpkin Spice Sauce
I would call this more of a pumpkin spice sauce rather than a syrup because it is thick. This recipe makes enough sauce for one latte, but I usually double it to make enough for my husband and I. You could alway make a larger batch and store in the fridge for a couple days to make Pumpkin Spice Lattes a few days in a row. I always prefer making just enough for the amount of coffee I am making that day, so it does not go bad or become too thick.
To start, measure out 1/4 cup of 100% canned pumpkin and dump into a small saucepan. Next, measure out 1 Tbsp of honey and 1 Tbsp of 100% maple syrup and add to the saucepan. Next add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and 1/4 tsp of pumpkin spice seasoning to the saucepan. Last, add 2 Tbsp of water to the saucepan. Mix until full combined. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it starts to boil. Then turn it down to medium-low heat. Allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes stirring constantly. Once it has simmered for 2-3 minutes, remove from heat.
How to Make The Pumpkin Spice Latte
Brew 1/2 cup of espresso according to your espresso machine’s manufacturer’s directions. Next add the prepared “Pumpkin Spice Sauce” to the warm espresso. Mix until fully combined. Next strain the espresso and pumpkin spice mixture into your desired cup. Then strain the espresso again into the original cup, and then back once more into the desired cup. This removes any pumpkin clumps that could still be present in the sauce and allows the latte to taste smooth. Next, add 1 cup of milk to the strained espresso/pumpkin spice sauce mixture. Stir until fully combined. Add your desired ice and enjoy!
